Broadcast Journalism
Reflection:
Being on camera and in front of a microphone is where I feel at home.
It comes naturally to me now that I’ve been doing it for so long, and I look forward to every opportunity I get to report or be on a broadcast. It’s an opportunity for me to convey my passion for the story or game I’m reporting on by showing I have a deep knowledge for my subject.
Feature Package - Stronger and Better

Jason Frost is a textbook example of overcoming adversity. After an ACL tear in the summer heading into his junior basketball season, Frost stayed positive and quickly recovered so he could play the game he loved more than anything for one last season.
No one can keep a smile on his face through adversity quite like Jason Frost. For these reasons, I included a video interview with the overall package about Frost’s journey through his injury. When considering how I would set up the angles, I wanted the video to reflect the multiple sides to Frost and went with a multi-camera approach to visually add to the story.

In the Booth
Being in the broadcast booth is a “home” feeling for me. I always feel at peace when my headset is on, notes are in front of me, and I’m settled in for some action. I’ve done play-by-play and color commentary for football, swimming, and field hockey in just a few shorts months of working.

The Bridge Recap
In partnership with Bridgeland’s athletic booster club’s digital Fan Guide, Bridgeland Media decided to produce a weekly recap of all the sports happenings around the school. The school does not have a broadcast journalism class and Ms. Berry teaches Journalism I, newspaper, yearbook, and photojournalism, so adding The Bridge Recap meant organizing time and resources differently. I was asked to take on the project. Creating a Sports Center type show, I lead the reporters through learning how to shoot video, record voiceovers, write scripts, and more. Through this process, I learned more about producing, directing, and hosting for broadcast. The community received the show favorably and I believe it will continue in the future.
