News - Teachers’ Strike
After school shut down in the early months of 2020, teachers had to learn a completely new way of teaching in order to get their students the education they needed.
But as the next school year began, teachers were forced to return to schools despite concerns about their own health, and some were not happy about that decision. Alongside some major news stations in the Houston area, I was able to capture some of the tension outside of the Instructional Support Center. These are shots from a protest before a Cy-Fair Independent School District board meeting:
A concerned parent of a Cy-Fair Independent School District student dresses up as the grim reaper in front of the Instructional Support Center. The woman, who remained anonymous, claimed her sign which read "CFISD Cemetery School" symbolized the students and staff who would die from going back to school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An elementary school student holds up a sign in support of teachers and bus drivers before a district board meeting. Several hours later, the district board of trustees unanimously voted to extend in-person and at-home learning option to all students, but not teachers.
